"The condor goes by"
The National Institute of Culture has issued a National Executive Resolution Nº 219/INC, published on the official newspaper "El Peruano," declaring Cultural Patrimony the Peruvian Song "El Condor Pasa" (The Condor Goes By) written by Daniel Alomía Robles.
By: Iván Reyna Ramos
This is the result of the Bill Nº 7892/2003-CR submitted by the congressman Ernesto Anibal Aranda Dextre, sent later to the Committee of Education, Science, Technology, Culture and Cultural Patrimony of the Congress of the Republic, which in turn sent it to the Institution who issued the abovementioned Resolution.
"We should remind the citizens that an asset declared as Cultural Patrimony according to the Article 20 of the Political Constitution, is protected by the State and the law guarantees its property," said the author of this legislative proposal.
He added, "In that regard, the relevant authorities of the Department of Huánuco should promote and take measures in order to recover, protect and promote the complete work of the notable local musician who put Peru's name in the spotlight all over the world."
Likewise, he pointed out that "the extensive work of Mr. Daniel Alomía Robles is based on songs and melodies from all Peru. It is a work that makes us feel inside the burning energy of our ground; a wild land, home of condors and eagles. It reflects - despite the opinion of pessimistic or disappointed people - the national spirit: fighter, stoical, tenacious and persistent in order to withstand suffering, privations and achieve its goals."
He also said that "his music's success is based on his ability to translate the native music with a sense of modernness and to give it the strength, feeling and authenticity that encourage our people." The Congressman was very pleased with the Resolution and concluded: "It is necessary to protect the authenticity of the artistic creation of the general Peruvian people and, in this case, it is necessary to protect the authenticity, originality and integrity of the musical creation of this eminent musician named Mr. Daniel Alomía Robles."
